Unusual ILLINOIS WATCH CASE Co. Ladies Compact with Watch. c.1950

An usual vintage ladies compact incorporating built-in watch. Manufactured around 1950 by the Illinois Watch Case Co. of Elgin, Illinois under the trademark, “Weldwood” and utilising an E. Ingraham Co. watch movement.
Gilded brass compact case decorated with black lacquer, with the watch face being visible through an aperture in the lid. Opening the lid (by depressing a button the edge of the case) reveals a mirror, the watch and also two compartments with lids, one for rouge and the other for powder. Both compartments still retain their original pads. The watch case swings out on a hinge to enable it to be wound and set. The case and powder pad are both signed, “Illinois Watch Case Co.”. Compact case width: 71.5mm square. Case condition: 80% (some very slight wear to plating & a single small shallow to ding to cover, but which has not resulted in loss to the lacquer).
The watch has a silvered rectangular watch dial with gilded hands and numerals & is signed. “Weldwood”. Dial condition: 85%. Fitted with an E. Ingraham Co. ‘Model L’ movement with a pin pallet escapement. Movement condition (appearance): 90%. Working order.
